A famous terrorist would be the Joker from Batman, or Osama Bin Laden, two radically different looking people, one being fictional and the other was real. There are different types and looks of terrorists, but very few are instantly thought of when thinking of terrorists.
The Mid-Eastern terrorists are commonly thought of as terrorists. Mainly thought of as a Muslim male, female, or child. Usually carrying an AK-47, a RPG, or a form of suicide bombing. They are thought of for doing it for their God, Allah. This is just one of the terrorists thought of.
The American terrorists are thought of as getting people to mass suicide for their belief or helping a Muslim terrorist. They look like an other law biding citizens, but they are thought of conspiring against the government or going to a gathering and mass suiciding.
The Super-villain type of terrorists are in fiction. The most ingrained in pop culture and after 70+ years and people still know Darth Vader and Lex Luthor and what they did. These are the Jack the Rippers and the the Dark Knight premiere shooters of fiction. These would look like a dark figure, probably mysterious, and most of the time has a power (i.e. PAKs, The Dark Side of the Force, or an alliance), usually has a power and always is intimidating.
There are different types of general terrorists, because of pop culture a terrorist can be anything from the Boston Bomber to the Green Goblin. I can say that Ganondorf, a villain that takes over lands and turns a kingdom into a desolate wasteland, is the Hitler of that universe, he enjoys causing terror and even his own kind wants to kill him.
